2009 has been a busy year for the Wilson’s. We moved. Again. This time we traded our life in the city for one in the country. We moved to Guthrie in June after accepting teaching positions with the school district. I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about living so far from restaurants and Target, but we have all adjusted well and absolutely love our new life.
Darren really likes his job as Technology Director for the Guthrie School District. All Middle School and High School students have laptops, and at the Elementary, there is one laptop for every 2 students. All that technology keeps him very busy – but it’s a good busy.
I am the Writing teacher for Kindergarten through 5th grade. My schedule is very fast paced, but I really love what I do. The Elementary teachers have been great to work with and I’ve adjusted well to working with just 7 teachers instead of 90. I’m happy to report that I knew all the teachers first and last names before school started. That’s something I didn’t accomplish until I had been at my school in Irving for 2 years.
Laura has come out of her shell here in Guthrie. The kids here are awesome and have welcomed her into their group. She has been staying very busy with cheerleading, cross country and basketball. She will turn 13 on the 23rd and is growing into a beautiful young lady. When we decided to make this move, I worried about how well Laura would adjust. But it’s turning out to be just the right place for her and she’s really starting the shine – inside and out.
Kate. Well, what can I say? Guthrie is still trying to figure out what hit them. The second day we were here, the little boy in the neighborhood knocked on our door and said “Can your little girl come out to play?” She did. I watched all morning from the kitchen window as they rode their bikes, climbed trees and dug holes. She came inside only to gulp down some lunch and then went back out to play. That became her schedule for the rest of the summer.
Kate has wrapped one of our neighbors around her little finger – the neighbor with the horses behind our house. There have been many days when she’s convinced him to take her for a ride on his horse. She’s also the self-appointed assistant to the Schwan’s man when he’s making his deliveries in our neighborhood. She absolutely loves first grade, but most of the time she sees it as an interruption to her play schedule.
As many of you well know, Darren and I have made many moves in our teaching career. You also know that hindsight is 20/20. As I look back on all the places we’ve lived and all the school’s we’ve worked in, I realize that at each of those places, we learned something that we needed to learn for the next place we were suppose to go. And I can absolutely say the same thing about Irving. It took us 7 years to learn what we needed to learn so that we would be ready to move to Guthrie when that opportunity arose. If I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected. I don’t know how long we will be in Guthrie, but I can say that I hope and pray we are here for a very long time.
We hope that this Christmas season brings your family many blessings. If you are ever out this way, stop by and see us. We’ll treat you to a tour of Guthrie, which will take all of 5 minutes.

Perfect holiday posting. We hope you are here for a very long time also. We love it!
Love your posting and glad that things are going well (not that I am surprised at all!) The girls look wonderful as always and I am glad to hear that they are adjusting to Big country life (I am sure that Guthrie is quite used to Kate by now, hee hee). Hope you all have a fabulous holiday and I look forward to seeing more photos and hearing more about the girls and the goings on in your life!
Happy Holidays!

I can’t believe that you all are in Guthrie! Kent despises all the people here and I always tell him when we go to Morton that we could move to Guthrie. (I love it around there.) He also says “they probably don’t have a big teacher turnover.” You keep me posted on those openings! Maybe I’ll stop in and see you next time I head to Morton. Isn’t it so true-once a country girl, always a country girl.
Hey – you are the first one I’m calling when I know of an opening! And come by and see us when you come through – I’d love to see you!
